Solitudinous Sunday

Sunday is family day, but this weekend- for some reason everybody decided to ditch me to spend time with their 'other loved ones'. I didn't mind so much though, I perfectly enjoyed my day of solitude. My day turned out to be more interesting than I thought it was going to be. So great that I decided to share with you on this post.

How to travel like a traveller in your own city:

1) Dress like you're from somewhere else.

Don't conform- be different, dress like an indie tourist. People will then treat you like one. Trust me, people talk to you less if they can't decide whether you are local or a foreigner.  I wore a playsuit + a sheer shirt and summer sneakers today. I wish I had a picture of myself but I'm not much of an #ootd selfie taker.

2) Download a playlist.

It's always a good idea to have a cool playlist playing in your ears while you walk around the city.  It makes you feel like you're in your own music video. I recommend Blalock's Indie/Rock Playlist.  http://www.birp.fm/  My life wouldn't be as awesome without it.

3) Visit a museum/gallery

I chose BACC (Bangkok's Art & Culture Center) today. I go once every couple of months for the following reasons: 1) To make use of the tax money I pay for the Bangkok Metropolitan Office, 2) To support the arts and music industry in Thailand and 3) To increase my level 'culturedness'- BACC is the closest thing to the Guggenheim available here.

On the way, I saw this super adorable girl. I think she was Korean.  I'm not a big fan of babies and children.  But this one was very well behaved and I truly admire her sense of style. She might just be the Suri Cruise of Seoul.

My farang humanities 101 lecturer said that BACC a cool place, but its a gallery with hardly any art to show.  I do agree to the statement to a certain extent because every time I go at least two out of three main galleries are always "under renovation". But here is some of the 'art' I saw.

I'm assuming its head of a bear. I was trying to figure out what it was made out of but it specifically said:

  "DO NOT TOUCH"

I touched it anyway...

It was plastic. Not as fluffy as you think it was gonna be. To me, that's art- or just irony. But irony is an art within itself. (✓) art

I was watching this clip in the projector room. It was a man looking at a fishtank and inside the fishtank it had a fish bowl. FISHCEPTION. (✓) art

Some LED lights glued together.  To me, it looks like a poshed version of temple fair lights. Very 'งานวัด'dy. (x) art

Not sure if this is part of the gallery exhibition... or the maid ran out of hanging space and got creative. Looks cool anyway. #thailandonly (✓) art

Pretty sure that this isn't art.  Its a mickey mouse bucket. Wanna guess what its there for?

You guessed it... the roof was leaking. It's to support the occasional rain drops of water.

4) Visit the ancient movie theatre.

Lido is just pure awesome.

Did you know that the movies tickets there only costs 100 bht? And the popcorn is only 20? I love everything about it, the old ticket booths- the classic tickets, old seats and plus my favorite part are the male escorts (not the gigolo type u perv) that wears yellow suit jackets that bring you to your seat.

I was lucky enough to walk in and find out that there was a "Silent Film Festival" held this week.

I was surprised to see that they actually got a real piano with a pianist who was playing it THE WHOLE ENTIRE 1 hour and 49 minutes.  She was Japanese and didn't have any sheet music on the piano.  She was playing the whole thing by memory???!!?!?!
This wasn't her but this is what it kinda looked like. But the room was bigger and darker.

The piano was one of the only two sounds I heard the whole time I was there.  The other sound was some old guy snoring.

I saw this German movie called 'Nerven' or something, was excited in the beginning but fell asleep three times. I didn't get it. I don't know if i'm not cultured enough to appreciate it and I can't understand why would anybody like this movie.  It about this one political leader who was involved in a love triangle which tangled with other triangles issues. This one lady kept touching other character's boobs regardless of whether it was a man, woman, or a dog. I had no idea was I was watching. Besides the huge dialogue texts were in german and I had to read the tiny English subs. I learned that Du = you and Volk= people.  And kinda had the epiphany name of Volkswagen = people's wagon. :0

It was a super awesome day. Thanks for reading for those of you who made it to the end. Enjoy the rest of your long holidays.

Heres a bonus for making it all the way to the bottom. #brainbounce

Much love,
Nicha
